EOP) was acquired for 39 billion US dollars by affiliates of The
Blackstone Group on February 9,
2007, and is no longer a publicly traded company. Zell's Equity Office
Properties Trust was the largest (not the best performing) office
landlord in the US. Zell was a master of the real estate investment
trust, or REIT.
Bought
In March 2007, Sam Zell bought
Tribune Corporation,
publisher of the
Los Angeles Times , The
Chicago
Tribune and The Baltimore Sun. It also owns 23 television stations and
is the owner of the Chicago Cubs. Zell will reportedly take the company
private, sell off the Chicago Cubs after the 2007 season.
