Trial period in France in 2006

In 2006 the French government came up with a plan to solve unemployment.

The idea was that it should be made more easy to get rid of employed people. This would make business hire more people.

So, the plan was that for people under age 26 there would be a trial period of 2 years. During those two years the boss could fire people without giving a  reason.

Students started to protest againsr this plan of the government. They occupied the university. There was destruction. No learning activities at the university during more than 30 days. Many riots and strikes during those days. In 2005 North Paris suburbs had already suffered from major riots during which over 6000 cars had been up on fire. It was a consequence of those riots that the govenment wanted to solve the youth unemployment.
