Belgian family law: affiliation

In 2006-2007 the Belgian Civil Code has been altered after many condamnations of it's legislation about affiliation by the Belgian Constitutional Court. The 1987 version of the civil code contained too many unjustified discriminations.

In 1987 the Belgian Civil Code changed it's legislation about affiliation in a fundamental way, to stop the unjustified discrimination in children's affiliation dependion on the marital situation of their parents.

In 1804 the Belgian Civil code provided that without marriage of the mother to the father,children were illegal, which had many consequences, like for inheritance and alimony.
