The national chamber of the notary public is a public society. It was introduced in 1999: Nationale Kamer van notarissen.
Prior to 1999 the notary public in Belgium had only their private societies on a national level, called Koninlijke Federatie van Belgische Notarissen vzw, Verzekeringen van het Notariaat vzw and some others. These are all private non-profit societies.
The address of both private societies and national chamber of notaries remained in their large buildings at Bergstraat in the center of Brussels near the Great Markeplace.
