The Merger of 2007 in Brussels was the one of Fortis Bank
They bought a part of the Dutch ABN Amro Bank.
They needed some 25 billion euro to pay for their part of ABN Amro. In the Summer of 2007 Fortis raised it's capital with around 12 billion euro. The remaining part of the 25 billion was recieved by loans.
But when you look at the Fortis Bank share price, you see that in april it was almost 30 euro a share, while in november 2007 that same shareprice had dropped as low as 15 euro. Shareholders lost a lot of value.
