Above: in January 2003, Ryanair was still flying the 737-200. Here between Brussels South (Charleroi) and Dublin.

After the development of the Boeing 707 which was their first passenger jet, Boeing developed the 727 and 737. The 737-200 has similarities with the 707, but is a lot smaller.

The 737-100 was only build in very limited numbers, but the much more produced 737-200 is almost identical.

The basic 737 design dates back to the 1960ies. Boeing developed several generations of aircraft based on the basic 737-200:

- the Boeing 737-300, which was streched (737-400) and shrunk (737-500)

- the next generation Boeing 737: 737-600, 737-700, 737-800, 737-900, ...
