September 14th 2005 the first delivery on a Embraer 190 took place.
JetBlue Airways, a low-price airline in the USA, was the launch
customer. They ordered 100.
In 2009 the Embraer is in use with: Air France, KLM, Finnair, ... In 2009 Air Canada mainline flies 45 Embraer 190. These have 9
Executive Class seats in a 1-2 configuration and 84 Economy Class seats
in a 2-2 configuration. That's a total of 93 seats.
It looks like a small Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 with winglets. In a smaller version with around 70 seats it's the Embraer 170. But the E190/195 have a larger wing than the E-170/175.
The Embraer 190 builds on the success of the Embraer 135, 140 and 145 Regional Jets and the E-170/175.
Competition
Against the Embraer E190 the older Boeing 737-600 or Airbus A318 have no chance. The Embraer 190 sells so much better. Even Bombardier had to introduce the C-series, as their CRJ-900 no really stood a chance against the Embraer 170-175-190-195 offer. BAE systems had already abanonned the renewal of their Avro RJ-100 in 2001.
