In 2003 Dublin was the most important base of Ryanair.

After liberalisation of the airline market in Europe, low cost airlines like Ryanair emerged.

To reduce the costs (to become low cost and be able to offer cheap fares to the passengers) they did things like:

- Use the same aircraft type in the entire fleet

- Use cheaper airports

- Use both front and rear exit of the airplane to reduce the time to load and unload passengers.
