In 2006 a new terminal was inaugurated with an expected capacity for 5 million passengers a year, which should be reached within 10 to 15 years.

Some 1 720 012 passengers used this airport in 1998.
There are plans to construct a new airport some 20 km from the city center, but this was too expensive in 2006.
