London Heathrow (LHR) in 2007

Heathrow is the main intercontinental airport of London.

Situated 24km/15miles west of the city, the airport has 4 terminals. Links to the city centre are by taxi, train, underground (tube) and bus. Taxis: There are taxi ranks outside the Arrivals Halls of all four terminals. Trains: in 2005 the new Heathrow Express is the fastest way to central London (Paddington Station). Trains leave every 15 minutes from Heathrow Central (for Terminals 1-3) and Terminal 4. Journey time is 15 minutes. Tube: The airport is served by the Piccadilly Line Underground. Trains leave from Heathrow Central (from Terminals 1-3) and Terminal 4. Journey time to central London is about 60 minutes. Tickets can be bought from machines in the baggage reclaim areas of all the terminals as well as in the stations. Bus: The bus service goes to London (Victoria Coach Station) every 30 minutes. Departures from outside the Terminals and journey time is about 60 minutes. In 1998 some 60.659.593 passengers used this airport.

London Gatwick (LGW) in 2007

Situated 48km/30 miles south of the city. There are 2 terminals and links to the city are by taxi, train and bus. Taxis: Outside Arrivals; journey time to the city centre can take two hours. Trains: The Gatwick Express is the fastest service in 2005 and goes to Victoria Station; trains depart every 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. A slower, stopping service also goes to Victoria Station, with departures every 15/30 minutes; journey time is about 50 minutes. A Thameslink service connects Gatwick with King’s Cross Station. Bus: A Flightline service operates between the airport and central London (Victoria Coach Station); hourly departures and journey time is 2 hours.
