EWR, built in 1928, evolved into a secondary choice, serving almost exclusively domestic flights until the mid-1980's. Except for limited servcies to Canada and non-USA places in the Carribbean until the early 1980's there was no major international services at EWR. But later Newark became a second international gateway to New York. In 2008 some 34, 188, 468 passengers used Newark airport.
