The airport has it's own
RENFE railway station, but it's only availabe from
Terminal 2 in 2010.
It will take half an hour to reach the city center of Barcelona by train and there seems to be service once every half hour.
If you arrive at the brand new
terminal 1 in 2010, you will first need to use the free shuttle between the
terminals at the airport if you want the use the railway service to the city center.
This rail service serves different railway stations in the city center: Sants (Sants Estacio) and Passeig de Gracia.
If you get off the train at
Passeig de Gracia railway station,
you are really downtown Barcelona, right near Las Ramblas and in the
Eixample district, which is the shopping district of the Barcelona.
Eixample is located right next to the old town. When in the 19th
century the old town became too small, the Eixample district was a new
extension of the city, with a straight lines street patern. Today you
can enjoy the masterpieces of 19th century architecture in this
district, which is the city center.
There is no
metro station at the airport in 2010.
