The airport is located 35 km from the city center at a hight of 26 feet above sea level on Salsette Island.
The domestic terminals 1-A and 1-B are commonly known as Santacruz airport. This was the first airport in Mumbai.
BOM had 10 914 113 passengers in 1998. In 2006 that number had increased to 17 500 000. BOM is formerly know as: Sahar International Airport (as it is located near the suburb Sahar).
