Built on several islands and adjacent parts of the mainland, it is Nigeria's largest city, chief port and principal economic and cultural center. Population (1992 estimate) 1,347,000.
Most of the Nigeria's imports enter through Lagos, and a large export trade exists in lumber and cacao, palm oil, and cotton products. Among manufactures produced in the city are machinery, motor vehicles, electronic equipment, chemicals, beer, processed food, and textiles.
