Inland city in Andalucia in Southern Spain, on the Guadelquivir river, which is the only navigable river of Spain. The area around the Cathedral and the Alcazar feels very authentic old in 2010 with narrow car free streets. The Gothic Cathedral was build during the 15th century, and after the discovery of America by Columbus in 1492, Seville was grandted to monopoly of trade with the Americas, which gave Seville it's golden age. The city has expedienced major decline, but around 100 years ago Seville boomed again with some industrialisation. Today the international importance of Seville is marginal. Seville has preserved the beauty of it's past the architecture which is also still to be found in 2010 in the hearts of it's citizens.
