Although it is situated on the banks of a river, Bucharest has never functioned as a port city.
The Danube-Bucharest Canal (73 km) will link Bucharest to the Danube River and, via the Danube-Black Sea Canal, to the Black Sea. In 2007 the canal isn't finshed.
