In 2007 Saudi Arabia has plans to expand it's railways network to Jeddah.

In 2007 the existing Saudi Railways network connects the port city of Dammam to the capital city Riyadh. There are 2 lines in operation:

1) In the 1950s a 556 km single track line was built and is only used for freight in 2007.

2) A second line was built in the 1980s. That line is 449 km single track and used by passenger trains.
